Are you struggling with headaches, brain fog, insomnia and joint pain? We often mistakenly think these and other all-too-common modern maladies are due to gluten intake or too much sugar or too little exercise. But there is a missing, and crucial, piece to the health puzzle that can no longer be overlooked; hydration.

With the heat of summer, many of us are significantly harming our bodies by simply not drinking enough water. It is a known fact that human beings can survive without food for several weeks, but will die after just a few days without water. This makes sense, considering that our adult bodies are 60% water. Yet, most of us are dehydrated, with some doctors suggesting that around 75% of Americans don't drink enough fluids.

There are many factors that cause dehydration.

Such as the lack of eating hydrating greens and fruits, the exposure to dry heat, air-conditioning and fluorescent light, a diet rich on sugar and salt as well as the consumption of alcohol, coffee, tea and over-the-counter medications.

Besides thirst and decreased urine output, some of the lesser known signs that can tell us that we are dehydrated are the inability to lose weight, constipation, bloating, afternoon fatigue, difficulty to focus, insomnia, headaches and stiffness.

So how do you get rehydrated and stay hydrated?

Here is a hint, it is not just drinking more tap water.

My special guest on this upcoming episode of Empowerment Radio, integrative medicine physician and co-author of "Quench" Dr. Dana Cohen joins me to share her effective and surprising ways on how to provide our body with the water it needs.
