After a turbulent 2017, many people are looking with worry and concern at this New Year and ready to make 2018 a year without fear! The unpredictability of the current political climate, the conflict with North Korea, global warming and the ongoing threat of terrorist attacks are just a few topics that keep ‘worriers’ awake at night. Yet, during a similarly challenging time in history, Franklin D. Roosevelt said: “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself – nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.” But how do you stop fear and anxiety from paralyzing you, so that you can make a positive impact during these difficult times?
As Einstein said, “you can’t solve a problem with the same mind that created it.” Since fear and anxiety are products of your own mind, the first and most important step to overcoming these challenges is to change your mind about them. That means that, rather than avoiding and running away from fear and anxiety, you need to start facing these emotions. Don’t get me wrong; facing your fears isn’t about forcing yourself to do whatever you are afraid of, like jumping out of a plane, quitting your job or giving a speech to strangers. In fact, many of my clients, who have tried to cure their fears with this kind of ‘pushing-through’ approach, ended up having random panic attacks as a result of it. As if the harder they tried to wrestle their emotions into submission, the harder their fear and anxiety pushed back.
Fear and anxiety also don’t respond well to anger and frustration and certainly get worse, when you are becoming afraid of your own feelings. The fact is that fear and anxiety are created by your subconscious mind for one reason only, which is to keep you safe. They are integral parts of your survival patterns, which most people develop during childhood. However, although the protective strategies your subconscious implemented, when you were little and rather powerless, may no longer be necessary, unless you are reprogramming this deeper part of your mind, it will continue to run these old patterns. This is why you still want to disappear when you’re about to give a presentation, convinced that everyone will notice that you’re an inadequate fraud. When your spouse is busy and preoccupied, you feel rejected, unloved, and afraid of being abandoned. Or you revert to the pouty, defensive attitude of a teenager when you get that reproachful look from your parents for arriving late to Sunday family dinner.
In order to update and reprogram your subconscious mind to greater confidence and inner peace, you need to address and resolve the three major root causes of your fear and anxiety, which are the emotional baggage of the past, inner self-sabotaging conflicts and limiting core-beliefs. This is what my individual breakthrough sessions and the video seminar are all about. They help you to get a clean slate on the conscious and subconscious level and to redefine how you want to perceive yourself and engage with the world you live in, from a place of confidence and inner harmony.
Yet, there is already some daily fear and anxiety resolving work you can start with tomorrow. You could say that switching out of fear and anxiety is similar to losing weight. Both require some dietary modifications and a regular workout routine. If you are curious about what this may entail, here are 2 options for you to learn more about how can you make 2018 a year, were you aren’t held back by fear, stress, and anxiety.
