Burnout is an incredibly serious issue that has become increasingly prominent in today’s fast-paced and often demanding work environments. Millions of people struggle with burnout, which is why World Health Organization recently deemed it a classifiable workplace phenomenon.
Burnout was coined in the 1970s to describe the consequences of severe stress on doctors, nurses, and other helping professionals.
Yet over the years, it became clear that burnout can affect us in any career.
Here are the common signs that can tell you whether you are heading toward it:
- Every day is a struggle
- You feel helpless and disillusioned
- Taking care of your job or your family seems like a waste of energy
- You are mentally and physically exhausted all the time
- You have no motivation because nothing you do seems to make a difference

Burnout isn’t a flaw or weakness; it is your mind-body system sending you a strong message that it is time for a course correction. Yet many of us are not paying attention to these signals because we are too externally focused and not connected to our mind and body
